[Ohiodig] plat map books Part 2

Last week I posted a question about a project we were doing in conjunction with our City Government digitizing plat map books from the 1880s. Well, we have another situation come up that I am looking into that has come up. I am posting this in several places but if anyone here has any thoughts or advice to share that would be great. Yesterday, in scanning, my clerk who is doing the project came across a volume that had some issues. It ended up causing an allergic reaction for her. This is the first volume that she has had a reaction to. This is what she described....

As I was turning the pages the splotches and staining near the center of each page was getting larger and darker. The stains and splotches are worse on the verso of each page of a spread of linen backed paper than they are on the front side of the pages. There is slight water damage on the edges of the pages, not near the splotches. There are no stringy growths that I can detect and there is no discernable smell.
