Thanks Matt!
This is great information.
We have a Canon EOS 90D DSLR with a set of lenses - came with 18-135mm and 55-250mm, (and got a 50mm lens for events).
I assume the 18-135 would work with the SlideSnap? We have boxes and boxes of slide carousels (and archival binders).
Thanks everyone,
Hydy

At Ohio State we have several options to digitize slides, Epson 1000XL, Nikon CoolScan 5000 and our Nikon z7 with 100mm Macro lens.
The Nikon z7+Macro Lens paired with our SlideSnap Pro is the fastest and highest quality of our three options. We digitized over 5200 slides with it at 4000ppi, and once we got the flow down we were doing about 400 an hour.
That said the setup time takes a bit so sometimes if it's a one off it's not worth the setup time.
My opinion is for most people now if you already have a DSLR or mirrorless it's probably better money spent investing in a macro lens and light source for slide digitization rather than a dedicated scanner. They are more versatile and allow you to upgrade pieces of the system as needed rather than the whole unit. Also, cameras from major brands may be able to be supported for longer as they don't rely on vendor supplied software that sometimes stopped being maintained.

Hi Digitization Friends,
My Boss is looking to prove to the college that the Library needs money.
>From the OPC Symposium, I learned that CML Main uses an STImaging Microfilm Scanner to digitize slides.
Our Periodicals department just got rid of our Very Old Microfilm readers (and our microfilm collections), but I'm pretty sure those cameras weren't up to archival standards anyway.
What are other folks use to scan slides and negatives?
Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi Hydy,
We typically just use flatbed scanners (Epson V850s with the film holder add-ons) to scan slides and negatives. It works well for the most part, but does take quite a bit of time, especially if you're scanning for preservation.
Hope that helps!
Nick
