NOTE: This is a part time (24 hours weekly), nonexempt role, starting at $14.00 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager, this staff member provides copy cataloging services, works with vendors to acquire library materials and solve related problems, assists with collection development and digitization projects, and performs a variety of processing and repair tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  *   Scans a variety of local history items, including items within Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s local history collections and various items loaned or donated to Tiffin-Seneca Public Library for preservation purposes.
  *   Adds metadata to digitized items on the Seneca County Digital Library using Dublin Core metadata standards.
  *   Edits metadata of digitized items in the Seneca County Digital Library for remediation purposes.
  *   Assists with preparing four displays per year for the Pat Hillmer display cases.
  *   Creates oral histories interviews with other Technical Services staff, which includes operating and using special equipment and technology to capture and edit the interview.
  *   Assists with other departmental projects when required, such as basic copy cataloging and mending.
  *   Promotes the Seneca County Digital Library within the community as opportunities arise.
  *   Maintains regular and reliable on-site attendance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  *   Knowledge of basic preservation and metadata standards and practices for local history materials.
  *   Understanding of the principles of public library collection development and maintenance.
  *   Ease and comfort utilizing a wide variety of technologies and software, including integrated library systems.
  *   Outstanding organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  *   Willingness to remain up-to-date on emerging technology, regulations and trends pertaining to digitization practices.

ORGANIZATION-WIDE WORK REQUIREMENTS
Every library staff member is expected to:

  *   Interact professionally with other staff members, patrons, and vendors.
  *   Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  *   Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
  *   Communicate and coordinate work efforts with others.
  *   Uphold library performance standards, work rules, and policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  *   None.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Technical Services Assistant works primarily in a shared, open office space. Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with frequent interruption. Must be able to read from a computer screen for significant amounts of time. Noise level varies by location.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Extensive periods of standing, bending, sitting, and lifting up to 40 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to handle library materials, perform general typing, computer, and clerical skills. Calm and focused handling of interruptions and distractions. Periodic intense concentration and sustained viewing of a computer monitor.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Generally, weekdays 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Fridays, 4:30 pm). A flexible schedule is required, including working potential evening or weekend hours in support of meetings, staffing needs, or library programs and events.

TRAVEL
Occasional local, regional, or statewide travel for trainings, meetings, and events may be required.

REQUIREMENTS

  *   Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or two (2) year’s previous public library experience.
  *   Acceptable Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation background check.
  *   Ability to utilize reliable transportation to report to work promptly.
