This is a great question!

What you may be seeing is similar to what others, customers and vendors, have shared with me when working with larger companies in the past. Some do this when submitting RFPs. I think this is happening more now because companies are trying to amp production back up after the pandemic.  Consulting services at Lyrasis did a study a few years back and discovered that many archival institutions were focusing on metadata cleanup and creation for existing digital objects versus new production because these tasks were easier to do remotely.

I have heard good things about Crowley.  If you would like to look at a few more vendors, I can share some others I am aware of.

Hello All,

I am beginning a microfilm digitization project and have received a quote from Crowley that was, comparatively speaking, pretty low. So much so that I had another vendor say that there was no way for them to compete. It is giving me a, "too good to be true" vibe.

Has anyone worked with Crowley to have their microfilm digitized? Curious of the outcome.

I also welcome any helpful tips and/or recommendations.

My scans will be hosted by Ohio Memory.
