Job Duties

The State Library of Ohio invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Librarian 2 Technical Services located in Columbus, Ohio.

Do you have your Master's degree in library science from an accredited college or university, 1 course or 3 months experience in library organization /or administration, and 12 months experience as a catalog or serial librarian? What are this position's duties?

 If you’re selected for this position, you can expect to spend your time:

  *   Providing excellent customer service to all of the State Library's internal and external customers.
  *   Preparing bibliographic information for entry in electronic databases for materials in all formats.
  *   Assisting with digitization, collection development, government documents and electronic resources maintenance.
  *   Providing reference and user assistance to state employees, government officials and library patrons using specialized resources.

Supplemental Information:
This position is unclassified per ORC 124.11(A)(7)(b)<http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/124.11> and as such, serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to successfully complete a background check and may submit to a urinalysis.

Qualifications
 Master's degree in library science from accredited college or university; 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in library organization &/or administration; 12 mos. exp. as catalog or serial librarian. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Knowledge of: attitudes & actions which perpetuate good working relationships & suitable public image (e.g. business & public behavior that reflects positively on employing agency); library science and technology; library practices & procedures; addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; employee training & development*; customer & personal service; agency policy & procedures (e.g. work rules)*.

Skill in: use of various types of office equipment such as computer &/or audio-visual equipment*; use of library hardware & software, such as print & microformat digital scanning and printing equipment*; use of office suite software; service orientation; active listening; critical thinking.

Ability to: gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; catalog & classify materials; interpret extensive variety of technical material; apply principles to solve practical problems; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals; use proper research methods to gather data; answer routine inquiries concerning library use & operation; apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense; combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events); work effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere.

Competency in: customer focus; establishing & maintaining personal relationships.
