Archives, libraries, museums, and cultural heritage organizations are often vulnerable to natural and human-made disasters, ranging from burst pipes, floods, fires, mold, cyber-attacks and so much more. The May OhioDIG joint
meeting with OPC will include presentations from Intermuseum Conservation Association, Western Reserve Historical Society, and Lyrasis.

Speakers:

From Drips to Deluges: Disaster Planning in the Buckeye State. Holly Witchey, executive director, Intermuseum Conservation Association (ICA).
Disaster planning and response is more than an endless round of spreadsheets, sirens, and sandbags. In Ohio, it's also about conversations over coffee, shared Google Docs, and the stubborn optimism of the unsung heroes in our communities (I’m talking about
the County Directors of the Offices of Emergency Management and others). Join Witchey as she explores how Northeast Ohio (and the rest of our wonderfully wonky state) is slowly but surely getting its preparedness act together. She’ll offer a couple of big
ideas that could grow wild, like kudzu but less invasive, and share a big idea that small communities just might pull off better than the big cities. This brief presentation traces the winding, sometimes whimsical road to collaboration in a state that knows
a thing or two about weathering storms—literally and figuratively.

Society. The library of Western Reserve Historical Society experienced a significant fire in September 2023, necessitating an extensive restoration effort completed in spring 2025. WRHS staff will discuss how the work affected their efforts to collect
and preserve archival materials and what they have learned from the restoration effort. They will also address how the event affected their priorities and plans for better stewardship, including a reconsideration of existing procedures and the adoption of
practical changes.

How Can We Help? Q/A Session with Lyrasis Disaster Planning & Response Consultants. Katy Klettlinger and Tom Clareson, Lyrasis.
Lyrasis Consulting Services will present an interactive session designed to address specific questions from attendees who have been affected by small and large-scale incidents involving their collections or to provide guidance on implementing disaster preparedness
best practices, including digital resources. The answers provided will include actions that can be taken immediately with minimal resources, as well as recommendations for long-term planning. The discussion will also include how attendees can collaborate
as a network to support one another in the event of an incident. Open discussion is encouraged, as we have all faced these issues within our institutions. However, a Lyrasis Consultant will be available for a free consultation after the meeting to share additional
information with those interested.
