<p class="MsoNormal">Hi all,<br>
<br>
I wanted to share a new collection in the Upper Arlington Public Library's UA Archives that I'm very passionate about. Concerned by the lack of diversity in Upper Arlington's historical record, several years ago I began interviewing community members from diverse
and underrepresented backgrounds about their journeys within and outside of the community. In the resulting videos, the interviewees share very personal and often painful reflections.<br>
<br>
Our collection just launched a few weeks ago, and the community response has been overwhelmingly positive. The participants themselves described going through the interview process and publicly sharing their stories as "healing" and "cathartic."<br>
<br>
This <a href="https://www.uaarchives.org/digital/collection/p16276coll9/id/43/rec/1">14-minute highlights video</a> provides a brief overview of the interviewees and themes within the collection. As a disclaimer, I'm a digital archives librarian and by no means
an experienced interviewer or filmmaker :) Each participant's full interview is also included in the overall
<a href="https://www.uaarchives.org/digital/collection/p16276coll9/search"><i>Diversity in UA</i> collection</a>.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<div>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
</div>
<div>
<p class="MsoNormal">To provide a bit more background, we are a CONTENTdm hosted library, and I've embedded each video into a compound document via YouTube streaming link. I edited the videos in Premiere Pro, and they were uploaded to YouTube with custom sidecar
caption files to maintain accuracy of names/locations and support translation into different languages. Printable, timestamped PDF transcripts were also created to help users find different keywords/topics. The compound document for each interviewee also includes
relevant photos and articles, as well as a story written by an interviewee on the autism spectrum. The record for
<a href="https://www.uaarchives.org/digital/collection/p16276coll9/id/17/rec/4">Deneen Day</a> is a good example of how full interviews were conducted as well as how individual compound documents are structured.<br>
<br>
Hopefully this will be of interest to others, and thanks in advance for viewing!<br>
