than a visual image of the library or heritage object, we going beneath the layers, and capturing a range of information with various scientific instrumentation. One of the most well-known imaging techniques is our multispectral imaging system, where with
multiple light bands in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared regions, we can capture redacted writing, and find layers of information outside the visible range. Another tool, Image Reconstruct Erase Noise Etc. (IRENE), is a 2D and 3D imaging capture system
to allow us to recover sounds from broken and damaged sound recordings. Less well known are some of the other complimentary imaging capabilities – X-Ray fluorescent mapping to visualize trace metals, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) imaging to
map organic compounds, and 3D imaging to look at the impact of environment and treatments.
