Subject: [External] Register Now - Wake Me Up When There’s a Disaster: America’s Complicated Relationship with Cultural Heritage Conservation

Good evening,

What happens to conservation when the world is in crisis? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

In anticipation of ICA-Art Conservation’s 75th anniversary, Executive Director Holly Witchey takes a lively look at the people, events, and unlikely turning points that have shaped American conservation—from wartime isolation and the Great Depression to the Monuments Men, graduate training programs, and the rise of regional conservation centers. She will touch on the impacts of Hurricane Katrina, the Great Recession, wildfires, floods, minimalist lifestyles, and billion-dollar art collections. Along the way, Holly asks: what can conservation’s history teach us about building a more resilient, accessible future?
