Hi all-

We used Backstage many years ago for microfilm digitization for our digitized yearbook collection (though I think there may be more local/Ohio options that others have worked with)

While we are on the topic of microfilm, does anyone have any vendor recommendations for digitizing entire rolls?

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Marsha,

Is this is a digital microfilm reader that the patron could extract image captures from? If so I think they could try an AI transcription tool like Transkribus<https://www.transkribus.org/>?

If it’s a digital microfilm reader, they could also try adjusting some of the brightness/contrast settings directly in the software. I’ve found that useful on occasion when I’m in a similar situation.

Hope that’s (kind of) helpful…?

Nick

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Ohiodig] microfilm question

Hello all,

A patron has asked the following, and I don't work with microfilm much.

Looking at old papers from the 1840s on microfilm and some of the print is not legible — is there any kind of program that can view a document and kind of fill in the letters like what's most probable letter; that could interpret what the print would actually say if I actually had the original print?

Any software that can fill in missing letters in microfilm?

Thanks!

Marsha
