Overview:
Our institutional repositories (IR) serve to document an institution's scholarly and creative output, provide access to knowledge for those inside and outside the institution, and preserve knowledge. Hosting recordings (both audio and video) of student recitals in academic institutional repositories intersects with thorny issues of copyright, including public performance and streaming rights, Open Access, the Public Domain, and Fair Use.
The presenters will share survey data they collected, help participants understand many of the issues involved in storing recitals/AV materials in an institutional repository, and give participants ideas about what they can do and how they can move forward. There will be time for Q&A.
Speakers:
* Peter Shirts, Music and Dance Librarian, Emory University
* Anna Dimoula, Scholarly Communications Librarian for the Performing Arts and Humanities, University of Miami
Sponsored by: Music Library Association Professional Development Workshops Subcommittee (under the MLA Education Committee)
Members: Lauren Bennati and Kristin Heath, co-chairs; Reed David, Amanda DuBose, Randye Jones, Marian Ritter, Maria Souliotis, Bethany Stewart
