I am not affiliated with the described meeting or the FITS development/stewardship team, just sharing relevant information for the benefit of the community.
I was alerted this morning that Harvard University is entering transition planning to step back from managing FITS, their popular digital preservation software.
A transition meeting was held on December 11th, and it looks like there is a follow-up meeting scheduled for January 29th.
This link contains a summary of the meeting and a link to the January meeting, which is open to the community: https://github.com/harvard-lts/fits/wiki/2025.12.11-FITS-Transition-Planning-Meeting#call-in-details
I'm unsure how widely used FITS is in the digital preservation community in Ohio, but I know it serves as a cornerstone of a lot of digital preservation workflows around the world and is integrated with a number of digital preservation systems. Information about this meeting also did not appear to be widely distributed, as I haven't seen it mentioned on any of my listservs.
Sincerely,
Aurora Charlow
