The Institute for Human Science and Culture at The University of Akron is launching a new online lecture series focused on historical collecting practices that brought ancestral belongings into museums and private collections. The series begins on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m., with historian and curator Dr. Meranda Roberts. Roberts will the discuss the colonial history of collecting and exhibiting Native American cultural items in academic spaces. The series will continue through the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters, with speakers including University of Montana Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act Repatriation Coordinator Courtney Little Axe, decolonial heritage specialist Dr. Paul Edward Montgomery Ramirez, and anthropologist and historian Dr. Joe Stahlman.
