Topic: Metadata, Metadata, Metadata
This month's presentations will focus on what every digital project needs--good metadata! Our three presentations include two case studies from grant-funded projects, and a collaborative best practices paper.

Presentations:

  * Best Practices for Queer Metadata. Chloe Misorski, Cataloging Librarian, Cleveland Museum of Art. Misorski (she/her) will be discussing her collaboration with peers in the Queer Metadata Collective, culminating in the recently published paper "Best Practices for Queer Metadata" (https://doi.org/10.26153/tsw/52437 )This document serves as a resource for all cultural heritage workers on the most inclusive descriptive and classification methods for queer people and communities.
  * Edward B. Taylor Collection. Rachael Bussert, local history librarian, Special Collections & Karen Brame, librarian for Africana Archives, Dayton Metro Library. Brame and Bussert will give an overview of the work completed for the 2023 LSTA Metadata Mini-Grant project focusing on a significant portion of the Edward B. Taylor Collection. The virtual collection (http://content.daytonmetrolibrary.org/digital/collection/p16669coll14/ ) contains more than 700 images of Dayton's African-American community. Dating from the 1950s until the 1990s, these were captured by Edward B. Taylor, who is celebrated as the first African-American commercial photographer of The Gem City.
  * Digitizing the Pauline Trigère Fashion Collection. Katie Gable & Eve Fenn, iSchool graduate students, Kent State University. Gable and Fenn will share details on the NEH-funded digitization project, Pauline Trigère: Fifty years of American Fashion Entrepreneurship and Design, at Kent State University (https://oaks.kent.edu/trigere). Included will be insights on digitization and creating descriptive metadata of Trigère's sketchbooks and scrapbooks.
