Perhaps of interest.

Applications are still being accepted for the workshop at University of Pittsburgh April 18-19, and you can apply for travel money too!

Subject: EXT: Civic Switchboard Institute: Apply to workshop on civic data work in libraries

Hello to all,

I am a faculty member in the University of Pittsburgh's Library Science program and and part of an Institute of Museum and Library Services-funded project called Civic Switchboard<https://civic-switchboard.github.io/>. We focus on the roles of libraries in connecting community members to open civic data.

Over 2024, we are hosting 6 regional workshops and one online workshop on civic data work in libraries. These Institutes will bring together library workers both interested in exploring civic data work in libraries and currently doing civic data work in libraries. Through the support of the IMLS, we are able to offer travel honoraria to offset travel expenses for participation.

We find that Digital Scholarship and Data Services units and staff are often doing great work with community data or interested in doing this work. We would love to have your participation in these Institutes and welcome questions!

We are currently accepting applications for the first of two Institutes -- in Pittsburgh on April 18-19 (application link<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnwNbey3VlmDFImyMKJG0wuej8df9nW_2UWlpj7uqfG_HyVw/viewform?usp=sf_link>) and in Chapel Hill on May 13-14 (application link<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeP6aA3nFt6uCWAx8kPxxGBSc8r8YPRhvIp5_z2SUNlBvAiYA/viewform?usp=sf_link>). We will open applications for Institutes in Boston, Portland (OR), South Bend, Houston and online in the weeks and months to come. We will share with the community here when those applications are open.

You can find the Institute objectives and draft agenda on the Civic Switchboard website: webpage link<https://civic-switchboard.github.io/2024-institutes/>. The dates for the Institutes are below.

Please do reach out to the Civic Switchboard team (civic-switchboard at pitt.edu<mailto:civic-switchboard at pitt.edu>) if you have any questions or would like to learn more! We would also really appreciate your help sharing with a colleague who may be interested in this.

Best wishes,
Nora Mattern
