Does your special collection hold "haunted or spooky objects"

Preservation is often about a story, and it is the season for a spooky one. Inspired by Halloween, All Saints Day, Dia de Los Muertos, Samhain and other cultural holidays that highlight humanity's relationship with the spirit realm, we invite you to share your spooky or haunted objects with OPC. Anthropodermic books have gotten a lot of attention lately, so we would like to move beyond these objects and highlight other types of materials that are tied to magic, death, and the afterlife.
We are looking for burial objects, supposedly haunted objects, relics, grimoires, other spell books, and/or anything with a supernatural or spooky story attached. Tell us about the history of the object, its acquisition, any preservation or conservation treatments performed or desired, and measures taken to ensure that the story is preserved along with the object. Dealing with objects of a religious or ritual nature can be challenging, so be sure to include any ethical questions or conversations that are being considered around the preservation and conservation or the object(s).

Program will be held November 14th virtually at 11am.
Please email both Amber Bales and Eric Harrelson with questions and interest in presenting.
