The State Library of Ohio invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Librarian Administrator 1 located in Columbus, Ohio.

  *   Directly, by building and managing quality collections and providing hands-on service to state government.
  *   Cooperatively, through collaborative efforts and information sharing networks within the library community.

What are this position's duties?

  *   Plans, directs & coordinates staff, projects, & programs in Research & Catalog Services (including collection development, digitization efforts, cataloging, etc.).
  *   Monitors & reconciles departmental budget & assists in budget planning for agency; administers funds for cooperative programs; makes purchasing recommendations & coordinates authorizations for payment.
  *   Works cooperatively with internal & external partners to secure funding for departmental initiatives & coordinate operations.
  *   Plans, develops, coordinates, & present training programs & speeches at state-agency & outside organization orientations, workshops, training seminars, etc.
  *   Communicates & builds relationships with all types of libraries & helps promote the State Library of Ohio & its various programs/projects.
  *   Promotes strategic partnerships & fosters successful, ongoing collaboration & knowledge exchange between the State Library of Ohio & other government agencies.
  *   This is an on-site position, which serves as backup for reference/circulation staff as needed.

Qualifications

Completion of graduate core program in library science as required by college or university; 6 years experience in librarian position; 18 mos. training or 18 months experience in management, supervision &/or administration.
-Or alternative, equivalent evidence of the Major Worker Characteristics noted above.

Knowledge of: library science & technology; interlibrary loans, budgeting, forecasting future operational activities & converting projections into monetary terms to plan & monitor expenditures within specified fiscal authority; supervisory principles/techniques &/or management; project/program management; public relations; budgeting*; employee training & development; office management; agency policies & procedures*; government structure & process (e.g. state agencies, library programs on a local, regional, state & federal level);collective bargaining;  interviewing; law (library).

Skill in: complex & creative problem solving; judgment & decision making; critical thinking; coordination; management of personnel resources; time management; management of fiscal resources; public speaking; active listening; reading comprehension; equipment operation (personal computer, etc.).

Ability to: provide solutions; deal with many variables & determine specific action (e.g., research procedures, policy development & interpretation); develop complex reports & position papers; handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public; work with a variety of different kinds of clients & patrons including those with low computer/literacy skills; use proper research methods for gathering data; develop good rapport with library staff, officials &/or community representatives; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things; establish friendly atmosphere as administrator as well as foster & be part of an effective team .
