[Ohiodig] Scanner Issue

Dear All,

I have an ongoing problem with my scanner, an Epson Expression 12000XL
running SilverFast Ai Studio Version 8.8, and was hoping someone might be
able to help as it's driving me crazy.
The short version is that whenever I attempt to scan something I end up
"chasing" the preview image back and forth across the screen with the
selection frame/marquee.

To explain, here's a step by step series of events:

   - Step 1: Draw selection frame around preview image and adjust to fit.
   - Step 2: Scan document.
   - Step 3: Resulting scan has excessive white space on one side.
   - Step 4: Run prescan.
   - Step 5: Preview image now shows excessive white space.
   - Step 6: Adjust frame right to crop excessive white space.
   - Step 7: Scan document again.
   - Step 8: Resulting scan is overcropped and part of the document is
   missing.
   - Step 9: Run prescan.
   - Step 10: Preview image now shows overcropping.
   - Step 11: Adjust frame left to avoid overcropping.
   - Step 12: Resulting scan has excessive white space on one side.

This repeats until eventually there is a relatively close match with the
actual document.

For example, here's the dimensions of one set of attempts from just today:

   - Scan 1: 1517 x 2413
   - Scan 2: 1511 x 2413
   - Scan 3: 1520 x 2413
   - Scan 4: 1528 x 2412
   - Scan 5: 1514 x 2413

A few clarifications:

   - When adjusting the frame, in some cases only one side of the box is
   moved. (In other words, the aspect ratio changes and the document is
   ever-so-slightly distorted.) In other instances, the entire box has to be
   shifted sideways.
   - Throughout this process, neither the photograph has been moved, nor
   the lid even lifted. The only variable is the dimensions of the frame.
   - There can be more than one sequential adjustment in the same direction
   before having to adjust the other way.

Has anyone dealt with this problem before or know what causes it?
