Best Practices Exchange 2021:
Adapting and Evolving Digital Initiatives
The Best Practices Exchange (BPE) Program Committee invites submissions of session proposals for the 2021 conference to be held virtually on Monday, May 17 - Wednesday, May 19, 2021. Deadline for proposals is Friday, January 22, 2021 (midnight).
BPE is an “unconference” that focuses on the management and preservation of digital information and brings together practitioners to discuss their real-world experiences, including best practices and lessons learned. These informal, conversational sessions give presenters and attendees alike a unique opportunity to meet, experience, and collaborate with other practitioners, educators, and researchers seeking to address a wide array of digital challenges.
Each session will feature short presentations, with at least half of each session devoted to discussion, from one or more presenters. Attendees and presenters should be prepared to share their own experiences, successes, failures, and lessons learned. The aim is to provide information about actionable approaches that address topics of interest which attendees can take to their own institutions and try for themselves.
We encourage topics about adapting and evolving digital initiatives, but all topics are welcome. Because 2020 was a year of unprecedented challenges, we anticipate there were many lessons learned while working in the digital environment. Noted topics of interest this year include, but are not limited to:
* Digital preservation
* Email archiving
* Web and social media archiving
* Adapting workflows
* Digitization management
* Linked data
* Data archiving
* Labor and skill development
* Inclusion and equity initiatives
* Access to digital information
* Creative funding and partnerships
Submission Information
BPE is open to all, but particularly practitioners in government and university archives and libraries; educators and researchers in the fields of library science, information science, technology, archives, and records management; and product developers working to create systems for managing and preserving digital assets.
Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes blocks, with 15-20 minutes of that time dedicated to questions and answers. Proposals may be submitted individually for shorter presentations or for a full session with multiple speakers. Shorter proposed presentations may be combined with others by the Program Committee.
For more information, see the BPE website, and the proposal submission form (https://wordpress.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6d55d94a66a24dfdf3fde7d14&id=2004652015&e=73c7757136) . Please send any questions to bestpracticesexchange at gmail.com.
