CAR Digitization Panel Call for Participation
What: Digitization Panel Discussion: Archives, Students, Volunteers, and Collections
When: Saturday, October 26th, 2019, 10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Dampeer Room, Kelvin Smith Library, Case Western Reserve University
In May 2017 CAR sponsored a panel discussion on digitization projects sponsored by local institutions. We would now like to continue the discussion with a focus on how archivists work with volunteers and students to make their projects reality. Whether you are involved with an academic institution, a local historical society, or business or non-profit, you have likely turned to students or volunteers for assistance. In addition, it is often students who make the most use of our collections once they are available online.
Do you have an experience you would like to share? What might the rest of us learn from your experiences digitizing materials, of all kinds? What issues have you encountered working with students and/or volunteers, and how have they enriched your work? The Cleveland Archival Roundtable is planning a digitization projects program and invites proposals for participation in a panel discussion to be held on Saturday, October 26th, 2019, from 10:00 am to12:00 pm in the Dampeer Room of the Kelvin Smith Library at Case Western Reserve University.
Panelists will speak for approximately ten minutes on a digitization project or topic and will then take part in a panel discussion guided by questions from the audience.
While we are interested in questions related to digitization and working with volunteers and students, we would also like to hear about projects of all kinds involving images, books, manuscripts, or recordings sposored by a range of institutions.
We are looking for diverse perspectives from archivists representing different types and sizes of archival institutions.
If you are interested in participating, please send a presentation title and brief description of your topic to Sean Martin, smartin at wrhs.org<mailto:smartin at wrhs.org>, by September 27th, 2019.
