These affordable hands-on technical workshops aim to help Information professionals, archivists, librarians & others gain exposure to technologies in data manipulation, analysis & visualization.  Build up your skills - stay relevant & competitive!

Each workshop is a gentle introduction to the technology, and is led by a seasoned instructor.
Beginners are welcome - no prior experience is required!  We kick off the series with an Introduction to Python.  Please share with your colleagues!

Introduction to Python

When:                  Thursday, May 30 : 1:00pm-4:00pm (please arrive by 12:45pm to ensure a prompt start time)
Location:              850D Baldwin Hall - College of Engineering and Applied Science Library Classroom,  University of Cincinnati (UC) main campus

Instructors:         Kwame Edjah - Graduate Assistant, UC Engineering and Applied Science Library & PhD student, Electrical Engineering
Mark Chalmers - UC Science & Engineering Librarian
Description:        Learn with others about the basics of Python, a widely-used and general-purpose programming language. Concepts will be applied in a real-world application example of data manipulation. Topics will include: variables and data types, arrays, dictionaries, operators, conditions, loops, functions, classes/objects, modules, packages (Pandas, matplotlib), libraries and file I/O.  Please bring your own laptop for the hands-on exercises.

Registration:      $15 - Special Libraries Association members, $30 Non-Members. Registration deadline is 12 noon on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.  Registration is limited to 25 attendees.
Please pay by cash or check (payable to SLA Cincinnati Chapter) on the day of the workshop. A receipt can be provided at the door.
