1) African American History Archivist

RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible to the Archives & Special Collections Manager for the assessment, inventorying, arrangement, description, processing, preservation of manuscripts and their accompanying finding aids.

CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as part-time operational and is non-exempt from overtime compensation.

COORDINATION:
1. Coordinates with associated WRHS endeavors for library and archival projects, including exhibitions, public programs, special events, educational programs, heritage management, and as otherwise needed.
2. Maintains associations with a variety of professional organizations to remain current on professional standards and matters in the archives field as well as promote WRHS and its interests

SUPERVISION: Occasionally supervises interns and volunteers.

DUTIES:

1. Supports WRHS's strategic and operational priorities
2. Arranges, processes, and preserves manuscript collections in order to make them accessible, for both WRHS collections and community partners
3. Describes collections accurately and appropriately in accompanying finding aids.
4. Maintains professional standards for work environment and records of collections - including confidentiality, deed of gifts, stewardship, processing, storage, et cetera.
5. Supports and contributes ideas, content, and other information to the WRHS's marketing and communication strategy
6. Collaborates with the Cataloging staff and WRHS IT Systems Manager to insure the accurate and timely entry of catalog data for archival collections in the Library's online cataloging system and with OCLC.
7. Occasional travel, evening and weekend hours will be necessary to accommodate WRHS operations
8. Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Archives & Special Collections Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in history or related field. Master's degree in library science (MLIS) with an emphasis on archival processing and management preferred
2. Experience: Two years of archival processing experience, EAD understanding, and knowledge of MPLP required.
3. Outstanding analytical, organizational, project, and time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
4. Evidence of active membership, participation, and involvement in professional and scholarly associations related to archives and/or libraries.
5. Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative in order to accomplish library and institutional goals.
6. Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
7. Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in the context of a special collections library and archival program.
8. Experience with legal and ethical standards associated with archival and manuscript collections.
9. Excellent written, verbal skills and strong interpersonal skills.
10. Essential personal traits: exhibit tact, positive disposition, enthusiasm for the profession, dependability, and integrity.
11. Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel locally.
12. Requires prolonged sitting (chiefly at a computer terminal). Some bending, stopping, and stretching. Occasionally may require lifting up to 50 pounds.

2) Digital Access Assistant

RESPONSIBILITY:  Responsible to the Archives & Special Collections Manager

CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as part-time professional, and is non-exempt from overtime compensation.

COORDINATION:
1. Works closely with Library and IT Staff at WRHS.
2. Coordinates with WRHS team to support institutional priorities for exhibitions, public programs, special events, educational programs, and as otherwise needed.

SUPERVISION: Occasionally supervises interns and volunteers.

DUTIES:

1.  Engages in and coordinates with Library team to execute WRHS's digitization strategy.
2.  Digitizes archival material and uploads digitized materials, including accurate metadata, to the digital repository in a timely manner.
3.  Performs routine quality control on all digitized archival materials.
4.  Participates in the development and maintenance of discovery tools and the Library's digital repository.
5.  Describes collections accurately and appropriately in accompanying finding aids.
6.  Maintains professional standards for work environment and records of collections - including confidentiality, deed of gifts, stewardship, processing, storage, et cetera.
7.  Works with Library team to ensure proper application of descriptive metadata standards.
8.  Responds to and problem solves customer access and usage opportunities.
9.  Works with patrons and community partners to provide specialized content experiences, programs, and deliverables.
10. Maintains professional, secure, and organized work spaces, including offices, digital lab space, archival storage space, and work rooms.
11. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be necessary to accommodate institutional events and needs.
12. Undertakes other duties as assigned by the Archives & Special Collections Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  An acute attention to detail as well as outstanding analytical, organizational, project, and time management skills and the ability to work on concurrent projects.
2.  Knowledge of current metadata standards, including DACS, EAD, MARC, and Dublin Core.
3.  Understanding of digitization standards, including FADGI guidelines and NARA standards.
4.  Knowledge of color correction and image editing software, including IrfanView, FastStone, or Adobe Photoshop.
5.  Experience with archival standards for handling fragile documents.
6.  Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative in order to accomplish library and institutional goals.
7.  Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in the context of a special collections library and archival program.
8.  Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
9.  Successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
10. Education: Bachelor's degree in humanities or related field. Preferred: MLIS with an emphasis on archival digital preservation management.
11. Experience: Two years of digitization experience and/or working within a library.
12. Requires prolonged sitting, chiefly at a computer terminal. Some bending, stooping, and stretching. Occasionally may require lifting up to 50 pounds.
