Marietta College seeks qualified applicants for the position of Special Collections Librarian. The Special Collections Librarian is responsible for: providing leadership, planning and management of the Library's special collections and archives; focusing on the promotion and interpretation of the collections to the Library's constituencies; and the development, maintenance, and preservation of the collections. The Special Collections Librarian leads the development of a digitization program and virtual services for the special collections and archives department.
This is a regular, 12-month, full-time, professional librarian position. As such, it is an exempt position carrying faculty rank and status and reporting to the Director of the Library.
The Special Collections Librarian assumes the following responsibilities:
* Manages the Special Collections department of Marietta College's Legacy Library and supervises the staff, student workers, and volunteers in the department
* Assists patrons in the use of special and archival materials, to include locating relevant resources and assisting with their use, and responds to inquiries for information
* Provides instruction in the use and interpretation of special and archival materials for college classes and other groups
* Promotes the services of the Special Collections department on campus and to the community
* Develops the collections through gift and purchase, including evaluation of collections proposed for acquisition
* Manages the collections, including their processing and the creation of finding aids
* Establishes appropriate policies, procedures, and practices for collection preservation and security
* Develops and manages digitization efforts of the department
* Develops new services and programs
* Serves as liaison to designated academic departments
* Collaborates with other library staff on special projects, including assignments from the Director of the Library
* Continues professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and seminars in order to remain current in library trends and new technologies
* Contributes professionally to the discipline with publications and presentations
* As a faculty member, serves on faculty committees and attends faculty meetings and College convocations
* Other responsibilities include occasionally assisting with general reference desk staffing on an emergency basis and other duties as assigned
Requirements:
* Must hold a master's degree from a graduate program in library science accredited by the American Library Association
* A minimum of one year's experience in an academic library or in special collections is required
* If selected for an interview, applicant must demonstrate teaching skills in a formal presentation to a selected audience during the interview process
* In addition to computer literacy, must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and organizational and problem-solving skills
* Must be a flexible team member who can collaborate effectively with co-workers in the library as well as campus constituents on projects and programs
