[Ohiodig] Internet Archive Discussion Point

Maybe we should have a "birds of a feather" discussion about Internet Archive at a future OhioDIG meeting. Several people in the group have worked with IA in one way or another, and there is clearly a lot of interest from people who are considering it.

Does anyone know if collections uploaded to the internet archive can be marked private (aka not open to the public)? We use archive-it to preserve our websites and have them all marked private. It would be helpful to have the same capability for collections.

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
This is a great news, I did not know that this is possible. I would like to get more information about this such as what is the process to upload content to IA, what is the cost and how our user can use it to find the materials that we have upload. Sorry, I am new to this and trying to find out how things work.

Thank you,

This is fascinating. I had no idea it was possible to upload content to the Internet Archive, and might be something we now consider.

Thanks for sharing.

Definitely. We have our publications on IA. We did also work with IA to get them digitized as well. We haven't uploaded anything ourselves yet. https://archive.org/details/toledomuseumofart<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2feur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com%2f%3furl%3dhttps%253A%252F%252Farchive.org%252Fdetails%252Ftoledomuseumofart%26data%3d02%257C01%257C%257C69842eb0aaf24c45a9f608d64b057e58%257C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%257C1%257C0%257C636778884306003350%26sdata%3dIvjdIhO2QPpLoQ0HrAHCfQ9%252B3Ey4Z1vqbyhmjIxGNk8%253D%26reserved%3d0&c=E,1,t6WjAKScZGLbEuMS0B4CrkejmnT1MoeEBL3oSBZsL9wCDCkByBJ3AwHjCBGT6k1Wjd-y52C1nu3CvXiElPGAAzxDmxNhTMd7k9L1VV_ykw,,&typo=1>

Hello OhioDIG,

It was great to see many of you yesterday and thank you again to Angela and Aaron for their presentation; the work CML is doing is very exciting!

If you are advising a small institution that would like to start making digital assets available online with a limited or nonexistent budget, would you ever advise them to start by uploading their content to the Internet Archive as an access and preservation solution? I'm curious about people's opinions here.

Thanks!

John
