[Ohiodig] PDF/UA

Greetings OhioDig:
It was great to have met those attending the event last week at BGSU. In one of my comments on the PDF, I mistakenly referred to PDF/X. I had the PDF/UA (Universal Access) in mind and this is the link: https://www.pdfa.org/pdfua-the-iso-standard-for-universal-accessibility/. I thought that Read Out Loud would be enough for accessibility, but what would it take to prepare PDF copies of scanned documents containing images or handwritten texts (correspondence, ledger, diary, etc.) for accessibility? There are more software (e.g., ABBYY) to create an OCR document but how is a PDF full of OCR junk be more helpful than hiring humans to prepare a legitimate transcription on demand? Also, while the PDF/A has been commonly used in the archivist community, may the PDF/UA one day mean a requirement to switch away from PDF/A?
Respectfully,

Hello Ohiodig-
I was informed the PDF with our remediation instructions cannot be sent through the listserv as an attachment, so if it is of interest, please email me directly and I can send out.

Subject: Alt text links and PDF remediation doc
Hi OhioDIG-
Here are some links to alt text that I mentioned yesterday to share out. Also, I got permission from our IS department to also share the attached documentation on PDF remediation that they created with the office of accessibility.

And, here is the company I mentioned yesterday that has been great to work with on accessibility. I have worked with Joel Mills (jmills at apexcovantage.com<mailto:jmills at apexcovantage.com>) who is Director of Business Development, who is fantastic, on a potential project with KSU.
